Tidbits.

* Loving feeling healthy again. Having a cold while tending a newborn really, really sucked.

* We’re having a rainy day here today. I’m loving it now, but I wasn’t thrilled when it started, because it sounded like a train going through town when it pounded down on the roof at Target. Horrified, I realized I had left my car’s passenger side window cracked. On the bright side, nothing got too wet and I am grateful that I hadn’t left the top down on my car and that I had only one window open.

* At one week post-partum I was back to my pre-pregnancy weight. My clothes fit just a tiny bit weird, but I am astonished how fast the weight left me. I guess it makes sense though. I gained 24.5 pounds, William was nearly 11 pounds of that, his placenta was HUGE, so that left just a few pounds of fluid to lose. It was a bummer that I was so paranoid about my weight gain while pregnant, but it’s totally worth it on this side of the event.

* Speaking of, I’m loving that I’m allowing myself carbs and sugar again. I dramatically scaled back when I was pregnant, so I’m on quite the cereal kick lately and absolutely love this chocolate granola I found. Unfortunately, it appears to be one of those “limited editions” that Costco is carrying. So it’s apparently going to be one of my temporary loves.

* Got the “all clear” to start exercising again a few weeks ago from my OB. That night I attended the aquatic exercise class and I’m back to lap swimming every day since then.

* I am so grateful for my mom and my husband. They make it a priority for me to have the time to go swimming. I was getting ready to leave for the gym one day, and they both sat here and negotiated with each other which one of them was going to tend to William while I was gone. It was funny for me to observe, but only because it was never a consideration that I wouldn’t go.

* I have the most amazing friends, family and neighbors. Everyone has given us so many wonderful clothes, I think William is probably one of the best dressed babies I’ve ever seen! But also, baby carriers, strollers, car seats, a swing, an Angel Care monitor… given them to us. Just like that.

* I’m a bit… stunned(?) to realize that I think my son is going to be an extrovert and quite the charmer. He loves to engage people, he’ll stare people down until they acknowledge him and then he’ll give them the most amazing smiles and “talk” to them. He shuns his nap if we’re out and about in favor of charming the people around him. Which makes for a meltdown when we get home, but sure makes me feel like a million dollars when people tell me how adorable he is. Oh sheez, I think I may be one of THOSE moms, heaven help us!

Wordless Weekend.

Snug went to the vet yesterday for his wellness exam.
Tug went along to reduce post-event Alpha Control Syndrome.
We’re not sure if the strategy worked or not.

It was a fun drive. In fact, I’m still laughing about the vision I must have been. A yowling red convertible on a Saturday drive. Nothing like a clown car!

Blogabilities – Week of 03/20/11

* First up, I’m going to blog about blogging for a moment. Nothing quite as riveting as that! I’ve received several emails and comments from you lovelies who have been kept away from visiting me here because you let life carry you away (excuses, excuses). Oh, I jest! I’m more guilty of that than you are, probably. Since I have a spare moment or two (or three) right now, I spent some time exploring e-mail subscription services for you (you’re welcome) and added that option over there to the left. What could be better than me in your e-mail? So, if you want to be notified of my new posts via e-mail, just click-click over there and plug in your e-mail address. I promise not to overload your inbox by posting every day. Again, you’re welcome.

* Next up, I’m going to change the title of my weekly “Love & Loathe” posts. I don’t always feel loathing for something, and many times I struggle with things to put under that section of the post. I long ago coined the word “blogabilities” — in fact, for years now, every month I create a new images folder in my computer titled just that. So, henceforth, I shall name my weekly updates “Blogabilities – Week of _____” and you shall like it!

* I’ve been on a turkey kick lately, and so I made a 9-pound turkey breast in the crockpot last week. I was more than a little worried whether it would fit, and it did, and it was delicious! Since then, I’ve been addicted to leftover turkey on a bagel thin (those 110 calorie bagels) with just a dab of butter. Especially when they’re put together by my husband.

* This cat of mine is something else.

Bedroom time for him is very rare, and only something that happens when he’s deathly ill or we feel he desperately needs it for mental health reasons. While I’ve been out of commission, we’ve let him into the bedroom for a couple hours every morning for my mental health. I’m fairly certain, based on the way he drapes himself over me like a tiger who’s captured his next victim, that the pleasure he takes in this special treatment is running neck-to-neck with the gluttonous satisfaction he derives from his food.

* I was craving some healthy cookies, so I baked 4-5 dozen of my honey oatmeal cookies last Sunday evening. Of course I doll them up with raisins, dates and chocolate chips… no cookie recipe is functional without chocolate chips. The experience was so wonderful. It was raining outside, and everyone was in the kitchen together, working on different things. Tony and my mom finished their food projects, and I had a couple dozen cookies left to bake. It was quite late, and everyone had gone to bed… or so I thought. Until I heard my mom’s footsteps coming down the stairs. It was a sweet moment when I gave her a cookie I had baked, warm and fresh from the oven. She savored it and requested another. I remembered the times I had, as a child, done the same exact thing… except then they were cookies she had baked.

Don’t Fit In…

… or I have temporary ADD and can’t seem to put together a coherent post about one topic. So you get bullet points. I know, you’re thinking “Hey, that’s no different than your most recent posts!” And I’m here to tell you, it is too. Because I’m not using asterisks, instead you get two dashes for each new thought. So there. Don’t argue with me, you won’t win.

And now that we’ve settled that, here are things I’ve done in the last couple of weeks but don’t seem to fit in anywhere.

— I got a new cell phone. A Samsung Reality. Yes, mom, a Korean brand. It has a QWERTY keyboard and I feel like I’ve now upgraded to the Big Time (even though I didn’t get a data plan). Text messages? Bring ’em on, baby!

— I also got a 2nd computer (remember my other one’s monitor died just after I lost my job last year). I got a Gateway Netbook and I love it. It also has Windows XP, which makes me very, very happy.

— I upgraded the RAM in both my Netbook and my Notebook. My Netbook hadn’t even been turned on when I did it. After seeing how fast my Notebook booted (with Windows Vista, no less), I now cry out, “Why didn’t I do that sooner? WHY?” Vince even told me to, way back when it was new.

— Graham crackers are delicious. Who let me forget that?

— I colored my hair a golden brown color for summer. It’s pretty.

— Umm, I think yesterday marked one year with no usage of shampoo. I’m too lazy to check my archives, but I think that’s right. I also think that’s pretty cool.

— I got a Furminator for the cats. It appears that they think my hand has grown a purple cat tongue that grooms them. They now fly across the room when I open the drawer it’s kept in.

— Am I the only one who thinks it’s funny that I got a bit sunburned (slightly pink, not ouchy, ouchy burn) on Saturday when we went to Sea World, and now it’s raining outside? So, you know, here I am walking around all tan-like and there’s no sun.

— We saw Bill Cosby on Sunday evening. He’s 72 years old, married 46 years and is the only person I know who can bring a thousand people to hysterical laughter just by saying, “Aaaand then…” Worth every penny spent for laughing for two non-stop hours. Awesome.
