Over the weekend, we made our annual trek to the county fair. Our first order of business is always to ride an elephant, provided by Have Trunk Will Travel. The money spent for that ride goes to support the elephants, and since I love elephants almost as much as I love cats, I feel it’s money well spent. This year we rode Kitty.
Oddly, there weren’t as many people at the fair the day we went as we remember from previous years. We usually visit the petting area (goats and more goats) and we feed and pet the goats (did I mention goats?). This year, there were so many people in the petting area that there was a really long line waiting to get in. It was absurdly crowded in there, so I pointed and said, “Hey, that’s where all the people are!”
A highlight for us was a new exhibit called the “Ice Museum.” There were several sculptures on exhibit, all carved of ice! It was 20Β°F in the showroom (brrrr, cold!), so if in the picture I look a little tense (or like I have to pee) you’ll know why.
Outside the ice museum was an artist who was sculpting this statue out of butter. This here is his butterbutt, and if you look closely, you might see his butterhole.
That thing up front there? I’ll let you name that.
I overheard the butter sculptor tell someone that last week he sculpted a Venus out of chocolate. I’m sure there’s something Freudian in that, right?
We were going to eat bad Fair Food, but I just couldn’t do it. Corn on the cob, a chicken skewer, and Dippin’ Dots for dessert were my indulgences of choice. I don’t remember what Tony had, other than a really huge pretzel that turned more heads than I did as a teenager! HA!
Of course, there was the garden and livestock area — this little piggy and that little piggy — they look like toes! Born on July 18th. Awwwww. Little oinkers.
Not sure what the point of this was, and it’s kind of an odd picture. It’s a watermelon that was encased in a plastic box. May I point out that it’s outgrowing its box?
It’s just not fair that the Fair only comes once a year!
Butterballs : ) hee, hee!
Good one — I was thinking it surely wouldn’t stand up to the heat!
I always enjoy going to the NYS Fair. It’s huge full of food and animals (and other fun stuff).
So the cat lover rides an elephant named Kitty. How appropriate! Glad you guys had a good time!
Food, animals, critter races, gardening, art — it’s so fun! I’ve never ridden on any of the rides, though.
HA! Yes, the cat lovers rode on Kitty the elephant. π
Look at the cute piggies!
I think the point of the watermelon was to get it to grow square (cubic, actually) with flat sides and corners. They should have used something stronger than that flimsy plastic though.
I loved the little piggies, they were so cute. π
Huh. Maybe you’re right, I just figured it was so people wouldn’t pick it, but there were other fruits and veggies at pickin’ distance and none of them were encased in plastic. So maybe you’re right.
The fair is fun. I had a 1/2 pound burger too, silly sweetie. XXOXOXOXO

Oh, that’s right. A big burger. π
If the box was not around the watermelon than some stupid idoit would pick it thinking that they are funny, when they are not.

So you think it was a protection measure?
Others are saying they were trying to grow a square watermelon. Either way, it was weird.
They needed to use something stronger than that plastic if they wanted to grow a square watermelon.
I think they were trying to do this:

We went to the State Fair in Sacramento. We had fun. π Didn’t see anything deep fried that I wanted to eat this year.
Kitty! Mia likes Kitty, but she likes Becky better. π
I don’t think I’ve ever ridden Becky. π
They go to the Santa Ana Zoo, don’t they?
A square watermelon. How very strange.
We didn’t eat anything deep fried either. I eyeballed the twinkie, but passed because it was $4. Wayyyyy too much money.
that looked like fun.. I wanna ride an elephant… I wanna eat rubbish food at a fair and oooooooh piglets…. I LURVE piglets.. did you talk to them? We used to at college, we had a farm on site and we used to go squeal at the piggies and they answer back.
It was so much fun! π
Nah, I didn’t squeal at them, didn’t want to interrupt their meal and their momma looked so content. π
i love the fair too. we haven’t gone yet, since everyone has been sick. i am hoping maybe this weekend. glad you got to enjoy it!
Definitely, you should go! I hope you guys feel better soon.
I’m tempted to go back, because the Clydesdales are going to be there 8/11-8/15. I love the Clydesdales and they no longer board them at Sea World, which is where I used to go see them for as long as I can remember.
that’s funny, i too love the clydesdales. i used to see them at the fair some years ago, but they haven’t been there in a long time.
well yesterday, all were well and you had shown me all the fun at the fair, so we went. just me and two wild boys. it was challenging but fun. we got to see the ice sculptures and the butter man, but he was wearing shorts and standing with a surfboard. we also rode on the elephant and pet the animals at the petting zoo. you just tempted me too much with all your pictures and recounting of fair fun.
i must say though, i blew through a lot of money and we didn’t go on any rides even.
So glad I’m a good influence on you! hehe
We spent more than I think we did — admission, elephant ride and food… oh, and honey and I bought that purse. Yep, more than I think we thought we did.
yes. we’ve ridden them both at the SA Zoo. π
yeah… $4 is expensive… but it’s only once a year, right? hehe.
That’s how we justify it. Yep, totally. π
I like the sculpture that was sculpted out of butter! It reminded me of “David” by Michelangelo.
I think that’s what it’s supposed to be, actually. π
Did you know i have goats now? Yep two of em, Bert and Ernie π
I love the fair, I’ve decided we have to go this year. have to. must.
Bert and Ernie, yep, you told me. hehe
You said they’re fainting goats, but you won’t let your boys scare them. Is that still so? π
The fair is a good time, you should go.
