Glad That’s Over!

It’s been quite the week around here.

The heat wave we have every summer has hit in full force. Especially in our area, since we’re up near a mountain, inland, we seem to have more extreme weather than those who live more coastal. Trying to get the get the heat out of the house at night always seems to be a bit of a challenge, especially since all of our bedrooms are upstairs.

Tony’s been in and out of the dentist chair this week. He has slowly, as budget permits, been taking care of his teeth. Getting fillings replaced, and if they’re too deep, getting crowns put on. Our dentist’s office has been working with him, allowing him to make partial payments as the work goes along. Despite the insurance coverage we have, which we’ve been told is really good, co-payments for dental work beyond the basic stuff is still very expensive.

One of the nights this week, he was hit with pain that kept him awake all night in misery. We thought it may be due to having kept his temporary crown on too long while we waited for money to catch up with treatment. So, he went in the next day and had the permanent crown put on. The next day, the pain returned. He found himself in the specialist’s chair on Friday having a root canal done on the tooth above the newly crowned tooth. A tooth he’d had a crown put on but a month or two ago.

I’m always amazed how such small parts of our bodies (a tooth, a toe, a finger) can cause such life altering pain. He seems to be feeling better, based on his activity level yesterday… he helped a friend move. You have to be feeling good to do that, right?

As a bonus, one of the places that his friend needed to go for furniture was up to the mountains. A block away from the Grizzly Manor. Which meant that, as a surprise (I didn’t know they were going up there, neither did Tony, actually), Tony brought me my favorite breakfast — The Mess. I was (and am) happy about that!

On Friday night, we spontaneously participated in Chick-Fil-A’s “Dress Like a Cow, Get Free Food” promotion. We were just sitting at home, talking. Tony’s pain meds had finally worn off and he said, all sad, “Today was Chick-Fil-A’s Cow Appreciation Day.” He looked at me, I looked at him. He goes, “They don’t close until 10pm…” We hopped online and printed off some cow disguises and off we went. I figured the fact that I was wearing my jammies in public (so classy of me, although in my defense they ARE Jack jammies, and those are pretty cool!) would be hidden by the cow disguise!

Sure we had people laughing at us in the parking lot, but we got a free meal out of the whole thing — and they didn’t, because they didn’t dress up. Plus it made us laugh after a bit of a crazy week!

I need to say this everywhere – I just love you two.

Sorry about Tony’s teeth issues. I’m still in a ton of pain from my first filling and I think I am going to try and get the dentist to see me again if I have some time off this month (subject to my boss’ return). I still can’t *touch* the tooth. Seems weird to me but they claim this is normal. I don’t think so!

  3. Oh. My. Goodness.! I totally love it! I want to live next door to you, and let your exhuberance for life rub off on me!

For some reason wordpress won’t let me comment so I’m trying to add more to it to make it accept it!

And yes, the heat was brutal. We are no longer on the coast in our new home. We are inland…and we have no AC! Even at night, it was 85 degrees inside our house and soooooooo humid. It was rough getting sleep this week. We are thankful for the return of normal low 80s outside, cool breezes keeping the house quite comfie. We also have 3 companies coming out this week to give us quotes on upgrading our central heat to include central air too 🙂 3 years same as cash is too good to pass up and since we KNOW that we live inland and it’s going to be brutally hot all summer, we’re going to be wise. CANNOT WAIT!

  7. cute 😀 i always think about doing it and i never do. 🙂 very cute. 🙂

  8. I was completely turned off the first time I ate at Chick-Fil-A.. It took years to draw me back and now that I’m back, I would definitely dress up in my finest cow wear for a free meal! Love that you guys did that!

    • What? Why? What’d they do? Have you had their banana milk shake? Oh my … they have a peach one now, but that banana one was amazing.

    • Beth

      It’s a long story that’s probably worth a blog post if I still had a blog. 😦

Trust me, it was bad. But all is forgiven and I am continually scouring NJ for the nearest Chick-Fil-A. Luckily, I moved closer to one, I’m now within 8 miles of their chicken goodness!

  9. Hope Tony’s feeling better now. Too much time with the dentist sucks.

You two are crazy. But I’m not surprised you dressed up as cows for free food. You guys crack me up!

    • Tony seems to be doing better. He’s waiting before he makes the most recent crown permanent, they just have temporary cement on the permanent crown now. He’s scared it may turn into a root canal too since it’s so close to the nerve.

Also, free food? I’m all over that! hehe

  10. What fun, after such a horrific week….The Heat & Humidity here were HORRENDOUS, by the What fun….after such a Horrific week….And by the way., the Heat & Humidity here., were Horrendous..
I know a lot about that kind of pain that Tony was feeling—too long to go into, but, suffice it to say, I had three teeth needing Root Canel, but the doctor kept thinking he got the problem with each one….THE PAIN? Excrutiating! Once all three had been done—It was like Nirvana….!

    • Oh sheez. Three of them? Painful teeth are (as you say) excruciating. Yikes.

I know, the heat is just crazy and it comes around every year. (sigh)

  11. There is a problem with commenting….some of the comment disappeared and then got repeated….Sorry.

  12. Man, I really wanted to do the Chick-Fil-A cow thing, but the temperature has been over 100 here and I don’t leave my AC in that heat except to stay in the car and demand iced coffee through a barely cracked window. All I want wealth for is to get out of TX in the summer.

    • Texas heat is nothing to joke around about… I heard it rained there last week?

    • Maybe in Houston a little. San Antonio had a small shower for about 30 minutes last week, but other than that, dry as a bone. We’re about to hit stage 3 water restrictions which means our laziness in getting our lawn resodded was justified.
